Contemporary Room Decor- Summer pt. 2- No Bad Days (this is so late)

I’m not sure why i bothered. This is so freaking late. I guess that’s why it’s contemporary room decor instead of summer room decor part two.  Anyways, this is the second part. These are just simple and cute room decor ideas that I thought were kind of contemporary.

Do any of you like Rise Against and Papa Roach? You guys should totally check them out!

Who’s been keeping up with Guilty Party? I missed a few vlogs, but I’ll try and catch up tomorrow. The plot is thickening! I wonder who Emma’s next target will be. Who took the photo of Preston and Charlie? I’m betting either Tess or Emma.

  1. Wall Hanging

You will need two colors of yarn and a wooden dowel. To embellish my dowel rod, I used a furniture stain touch-up marker to stain it a darker color

Step One. What you want to do first is take your two colors of yarn together and cuta long string. It should be double the length you want. Then, fold in half and slide under the dowel. The top part with the loop is the most important. You need to find it, and then you fold up the bottom and thread it through. One you are happy, you can stop and mole on to the tassel.

Step Two. To make the tassel, take your yarn and loop it multiple times around an object. I tried my fingers and almost cut off the circulation, so I wouldn’t recommend that. Then, slide it off and tie with another piece of yarn. Cut the loop so it actually looks like a tassel, then add to the dowel and hang on the wall to finish.

2. Copper Foil

You will need copper foil, black paint or ink and a Popsicle stick.

Step One. Cut a piece of copper foil. Trace a landscape onto the foil. I drew my landscape, but you can totally work off of a real image, it just may be a little more difficult. In order to get the image, lay your landscape over top the foil and trace hard with a pen to get an imprint.

Step Two. Flip your foil over, then look at the areas that you want to have sticking out. Go over them hard with a Popsicle stick so that they will stick out, then flip over and do the same for all areas you want sunken in.

Step Three, Take a sponge and cover your foil in black ink or paint. I used India ink, and it made the biggest freaking mess possible, so just keep that in mind if you are using ink. Let it mostly dry, then wipe off. To get a burnished effect, you may need to do it multiple times.

3. Jewellery Display

This one is more of a hack. You will need three pushpins of the same color.

Mark out where on the wall you want your hooks to be, and simply press the pushpins into the wall. Add your necklaces and other jewellery to finish

Sorry this was so late…. I should have some Halloween and fall decor up soon. I just need actual time to do the DIYs, and sometimes coming up with ideas is really difficult. But i really am trying. So yeah. Between school and homework, I ma not get it up until really late October, so just bear with me and check out The Lifestyle Of An Awkward Teen Almost Genius, my other blog.

I’ll see you guys in my next post, so until next time..

Line and Sinker- Learning to Hold Your Head Up High.

There is a song by Billy Talent that is called Line and Sinker. Once you get past the screaming at the beginning, and pay attention to the actual lyrics, it is a song baout holding your head high.

The main character of the song feels as if nobody in the world cares about him. Even Santa Claus. He’s always teased, but he finds a way through despite.

I have felt like that before, but I have learned how to shrug it off and be like ‘who even cares?’. Today, the strangest thing happened. There are two kids in mainstream who barely know me, and probably don’t like me very much (if you guys are reading this, you know who you are) and this loser idiot kept rubbing it in my face about how I lost the student council election and he was being really sarcastic about the entire thing like ‘oh, congratulations on being elected’ and ‘you can really help make a difference on student council as the new communications minister’, and the one girl said ‘leave her alone Savvy, you’re being really rude’ and the other boy said ‘yeah, that’s really not nice’, and it’s things like this that can really brighten your day. It encourages you to carry on.

Holding your head high may sound really difficult, but you know, as long as you have confidence in yourself, it is really easy. You just need to remember that loser idiots like that don’t even matter at all. They are just trying to put you down so they can feel tall. Embrace your uniqueness, even if nobody else can see how unique you are. Because you are beautiful and you are worth people’s time, and if they can’t see that, then you obviously don’t need them.

My Favorite Billy Talent Songs- A VERY Hard List To Compile!

Hello! I understand that I was supposed to do a full week of posts, but the grade eight workload was freaking crazy! So here we are…..

This is a list of my FAVORITE Billy Talent songs, and let me tell you that this was very hard to compile, as I love pretty much all their music. But these are the 10 songs that stand out for various reasons.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

5- A Passage To Bangkok (Rush Cover)

4- Stand Up and Run

3- Surrender

2- Burn The Evidence

1- Living In The Shadows

RUNNER UP:

Standing In The Rain

THE TOP TEN:

#10-

Try Honesty

Try Honesty

I love both versions of ‘Try Honesty’, and the acoustic. This song was definitely their rise to fame. They were all in a weird place when they made the ‘Try Honesty’ EP, with Ian and Jon in college, and Aaron learning he had MS. But this album shaped my opinion on rock, metal and punk.

Billy Talent III.jpg

White Sparrows

‘White Sparrows’ is one of the only three songs that can make me cry. This song tells the story of a man and a women who are deeply in love, but then due to health complications, the woman passes away. This song really resonates and provokes feeling.

#8-

rabbit down the hole

Rabbit Down The Hole

‘Rabbit Down The Hole’ was definitely one of the best songs off of ‘Afraid Of Heights’. It is an amazing six minute power ballad that has one of Ian’s best guitar riffs yet. It did take me a few months to warm up to, but now it is one of my absolute favorites.

#7-

Billy Talent

Nothing To Lose

I don’t think I need to say anything about this one. Such a sad song. The other song that makes me cry. I love it. Don’t ask me why. I don’t know. I just do.

#6-

The Ex.jpg

The Ex

The single-handed best angry breakup song ever. It’s impossible not to love it as Ben sings about a girl who broke his heart so much, he felt he needed to write a song about it! It is one of the best songs ever. Even though i’ve never been dumped. Although, my best friend ditched me for the ‘cool crowd’, so that’s relation enough.

#5-

Devil_On_My_Shoulder

Devil On My Shoulder

I love it. It is absolutely fabulous. Hands-down one of my favorites. Some of the best guitar and bass works are on this one song. Some of it is actually so relatable! Ahem… As I get closer, my dreams get farther, I climb that ladder, you kick it over….. I;ve dug a hole so deep im gonna drown in my mistakes. Yep, so relatable!

#4-

Surprise, Surprise

Surprise, Surprise

That music video though…… But we’re not talking about tyrant pigs. We are talking about the rebellious sounds that made me fall in love with Billy Talent in the first place. I still love it!

Here’s the music video for people who want to see it…. I dont know why you would.

#3-

Rusted From The Rain

Rusted From The Rain

Getting down to the nitty gritty, are we?

What is there not to love about ‘Rusted From The Rain’? The music video had absolutley nothing to do with the song, but the video was still amazing like always. I love this song. It was actually the first song from their third album that I ever heard. ‘Surprise, Surprise’ and ‘Rusted From The Rain’ got me into this band!

#2-

the crutch

The Crutch

It’s hard and it’s raw rock and it’s absolutely f-ing flawless. One of the best songs on AOH (Afraid Of Heights). Like I said, it’s flawless. Out of all the songs on AOH,this one sounds the most like a traditional punk song. I love it. You need to play it as LOUD as freaking possible.

#1-

Billy Talent

Voices of Violence

This is one of my absolute favorites! But it really is a three way tie. I know this is one of their older songs, but it is one of the best. It also contains one of my favorite quotes: Don’t Wait For, A Knight In Shining Armour… Your Savior, is Reflected in the mirror. Yep. ‘Voices of Violence’ is one of the best songs they’ve written.

THE OTHER FAVES! (THAT TIED WITH VOICES OF VIOLENCE):

Perfect World

Half Past Dead

That is my top 10, and the ones that tied with ‘Voices of Violence’, plus others. Feel free to share your top 10, and like and follow me for more top 10 songs by artists like Young Guns and Cage the Elephant. Stay Gold and do your best to survive the first month af school! I know it’s difficult, but you can do it!

The First Day Of School. Expectations VS Reality

The first day of school……..

Expectation

Your alarm goes off at 6:25, playing (insert favorite song here) to wake you up. You spring out of bed full of enthusiasm for the coming day

Reality

The alarm goes off and you roll over, covering your face with your pillow. You grudgingly get out of bed when your jam finishes and dread what is going to come.

Expectation

Everybody is accepting of your new style and the way you changed over the summer. Everybody is glad to see you back.

Reality

Your punk rock style does not go down well with your peers. You get called ‘edgy’ multiple times by people you don’t get along with, and the usual buttheads are annoying you.

Expectation

Your schedule is perfect. You immediately pick out the days you are looking forward to the most. The day that has a perfect blend of all your favorite subjects. You sign up for every club possible and have a generally bearable experience.

Reality

Your schedule is a blend of hate, hate and love. There is no one day that you actually end up looking forward to. You don’t sign up for any clubs, just the usual office helping, that gets you called a teachers pet.

This is just how the first day was for me. If everything met your expectations, that’s absolutely amazing, and it also means that your experience was way freaking better than mine. Remember to  follow my blog and like my posts to show that you like my content, it really supports me. This just being a hobby, i dont post as often as I could and there isnt a schedule, but i keep trying. Ill see u next time,

SUMMER DIYS!!! (Finally here, guys!)

So sorry it took this long. I had the back-to-he- back-to-school series to work on and my other blog, so things did get a little hectic. But it;s better late than never!

This week, I’m going to do one straight week of posts, just see how that turns out…

Today we are going to make two pairs of sunglasses and a halter top, so without further ado, lets get down to it.

IMG_2110

  1. Halter Top

The halter top is basically the easiest DIY here, and i even feel a little weird calling it a DIY. I think that it’s more of a hack. All you really want to do is take a tank top and simply cut the two straps right at the base so you have two strings that you can tie around your neck. Clean up the edges with an x-acto knife, and that’s that.

IMG_2112

2. Beaded Sunglasses

You will need some sunglasses, white glue and beads. Optionally, you can cover the arms in duct tape.

The Only Step. Put some white glue around the rims. While it is still wet, drop in some beads. Let dry, then sport stylishly. I didn’t want to be too extra so I just put some beads on one quarter of the area directly around the rims.

IMG_2111

3. Two Tone/Ombre Sunglasses

You will need two colors of paint, sunglasses, a bead and the optional duct taped arms. If you want to make them two toned, I’d recommend some nail tape.

Step One. Duct tape the arms (optional) and paint the rims a chosen base color. This is where you need to decide wether or not you want to do two-tone or ombre. I went with ombre.

Step Two. To do the two-toned look, put a piece of nail tape across half of the rim, not covering the lenses. You can take them out if you prefer. Simply paint above the nail tape and peel off for a crisp line.

To do the ombre, simply paint the top and let the brushstrokes blend into the base color.

Once your second color has dried, add a bead to one side to add some embellishment. Mine was two dolphins.

I hope that you guys enjoyed this, even though it was so freaking late! Remember to check out my second blog and follow both if you dont want to miss out on what I have in store for you guys next. I wish you luck with back to school, seeing as how doomsday is tomorrow. I think I’m going to do an expectations vs reality for the first day, after I’ve fully experienced the first day of grade eight. I can almost garuntee you that you’ll be laughing your behinds off.

Until next time,

-Tash

PS, who’s watching Guilty Party tomorrow? Who do you think took Emma’s diary?
