5 Books to Read When You’re Bored (or more long car rides) + DIY Kate Spade- esque Bookmark

Hello, It’s Me. I’ve been wondering if after all these years you’d like to meet…

-Adele

HI! AmCan is coming up, and for those of you who don’t know what that is (most of you), it’s a judo tournament in Buffalo at the end of May. Now, it’s about a week away. The car ride though, is a really long one. About two and a half hours in a car with my little sister. People need something to do. These books are great for occasions like this or simply for reading when you’re bored. Why don’t i stop talking so we can begin with the books!

the school for good and evil

2. The Outsiders by SE Hinton

You might need tissues. Ponyboy can depend on his brothers Sodapop and Darrel. And the rest of the gang: Johnny, Two-Bit, Steve and Dallas. He also knows that he can depend on Socs trying to beat the crap out of greasers like him just for the fun of it. One night, Socs take it too far and suddenly Ponyboy’s world gets torn apart. Chapters 6-10 set the plot line on fire and everything just comes crashing. There was also a movie starring (very young, like 1983-however old they were then young) C.Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez, an unnoticable Tom Cruise and an amazing 18 year old Matt Dillon. The book was written by a 16 year old girl in 1967 and is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma tough it is never said.

missing horse mystery

3. Nancy Drew #145: The Missing Horse Mystery by  Carolyn Keene

When attending the Midwest Grand Prix Dressage Championships, Nancy quickly learns that these horses earn big money and turn friendly competition into a cutthroat profession. When one of the star horses is “kidnapped” during a stable fire, Nancy is immediately hired to find the horse, but in the cutthroat world of dressage, nothing is as it seems and everybody is hiding something. Not the world’s best mystery, but great if you need something to do for half an hour.

rebel mckenzie

4. Rebel McKenzie by Candice Ransom

Rebel could not be less happy. She wants to spend her summer at an ice age dig that her parents forbid her from going to unless she pays for it herself, only problem being that she is broke. When she finds out her neighbor Bambi won five hundred dollars in a beauty pageant, she’s itching to win the Miss Frog Level Volunteer Fire Department Pageant. She’s not your typical teenager, but she can pretend long enough, can’t she?

spellbinding

5. Spellbinding by Maya Gold

Abby Silva was never normal. That she knew. Being a “chameleon’ at Ipswich High means that everybody, including the boy she likes, ignores her. But for a genealogy project, she discovers that she is  descended from accused witches in Salem. She can move objects with her mind, will candles to light themselves and make potions to exact revenge on anyone who’s ever ticked her off. Oh yeah, she can light people on fire. But what’s with the cute boy, Rem Anders and why can she always hear what he’s thinking?

The DIY: Kate Spade-esque Bookmark

You will need patterned cardstock, a ruler and a black marker. If you want to go for a minimalist look, you can just use plain cardstock.

The Only Step. Cut a bookmark shape out of your cardstock. Use a ruler to mark out stripes. Color them in. Add a spade or a club or any playing card suit and a random year. I used 1989 because i was listening to New Romantics by Taylor Swift at the time.

Thanks for reading my blog! Remember to follow my blog so that you don’t miss out on future posts and i really do hope you like them! You can check out some of my friends’ bloggs through the links on the homepage. Keep DIYing and being who you are! I’ll post soon!
